Cotton Town - Blackburn with Darwen

India Mill

India Mill

India Mill is the single most important building in Blackburn or Darwen and possibly the most important remaining building from the textile industry in the North-west of England. Both mill and it's Italian inspired striking chimney are listed buildings.

Eccles Shorrock had the vision behind this extraordinary venture, but a recession, the cotton famine, and ill health made this landmark success short-lived.

Over the years, India Mill has gathered a rich history full of rumours and stories. Today, Brookhouse Holdings PLC with help from the Campbell Driver Partnership and grants from English Heritage have secured the future of India Mill for the short term and the use of the space within the building is regenerating both the mill and surrounding area.
