Wilpshire, near Blackburn

A peaceful traffic free scene looking from Ribchester Road up to Whalley Road. The Wilpshire Hotel can be seen in the distance at the left hand side. Beyond this is "Spring Bank" at the junction of Hollowhead Lane and Whalley Road. This was a post office for many years, until it moved on to Ribchester Road in the 1930s. Then, as now, Wilpshire was a desirable place to live and many handsome villas were built. The population at the time of this photo was around 600.
