After a look at Blackburn market and its “Time Ball and Gun”, we move onto a history of Darwen Market from the building of the Market House up to 1975.

A building most of the older generation will remember was the Co-op Emporium (now Blackburn Central Library) showing photographs of the various departments.

Click here for an account of Nellie Parkinson's memories of working in Darwen Co-op. Vince Gibson also gives an insight into working in a large grocers store during the 1940s and 50s.
