Manors, Halls and Large Houses

Blackburn and Darwen had their share of large houses for the gentry of the towns.  In the first part of this section you can see photographs of some of these houses and their gardens.

“A History of Lower Darwen” by Gerald Schofield gives an insight in to the Township with a look at the Eccles Family.
An in-depth look at the living conditions of the people of Blackburn and district is given in a thesis written by Andrew Taylor.

There are articles on the buildings in the two towns, and finally a look at some houses of the gentry.
